Supreme Petfoods make this feed, and although it has been specifically designed for the Guinea pig, it is highly suited to the degu diet as their dietary needs are very similar. It comes in large, zipclose bags for freshness and is easily available from most petshops (and some supermarkets) in the UK. Sizes available: 850 g, 2.5 kg and 15 kg |
>Ingredients< Alfalfa, flaked peas, flaked maize, wheat and flaked wheat, oats, soya, locust beans, anise and fenugreek liquid, soya oil, orange, banana, vitamins and minerals, sodium chloride, EC colourants, sodium sulphide stabiliser. Note: The inclusion of banana and orange does not mean the sugar content is increased; these are likely to be the sugar-extracted pulps of the fruit and therefore consist mainly of fibre. This feed does NOT contain dried fruits. Salt is included in this feed (sodium chloride). |

>Specific feeding advice< The fibre levels of this feed are a little low, so you need to make sure your degus are eating enough hay when giving this diet. Remember fresh hay should be provided continuously for your degus to eat throughout the day. *IMPORTANT NOTE for US degu owners*: The ingredients used for the exported version of this feed differ from those used in the UK version, and glucose IS included. It is thought the biscuit type bits contain glucose as a binding agent, so these should be removed prior to feeding- note that these may also be the bits that contain the added vitamins! This does not apply to UK degu owners. UPDATE Jan 2009- This product no longer contains glucose or added sugar in the US version. If your packaging looks the same as that pictured above, you have the new feed which is virtually identical to the UK version. This new US version is made in the US by the Absorption Corporation, Ferndale, Washington who also distribute it to the US and Canada. |
